Gathered Around the Light

With a firefly in the night, the darkness is never absolute. With the stars sprinkled in the sky, we may navigate through life. With the Son as our anchor, we can drift safely with the tides. But for those who’ve been lost, to find their way, there is the light that God, through the intercession of Christ Jesus, has kept lit for us. “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6 NIV). The lamp of love has never been dimmed, but as we turn our backs on Him, we feel alone, lost, abandoned. Yet His light is always there, we need simply right our way to find it. We find our earthly comforts in the light of day and then the shadows of doubt overwhelm us again. This earthly light is momentary while the light of God is eternal, it is this simple truth which we’ve misplaced. It is this chronic transgression which sets our hopes in faltering light. With God in the shadows of our lives, He is too often neglected. When we look directly to God with each sunrise, our days will be clear, even as the storms drift past. When we talk to God, we can feel His adoring eyes watching over us. There is no greater sacrifice than to offer up your perfect child for those who have forgotten how to care, how to love or how to sacrifice on their own. This is the purest form of love.

Our universe is too vast to imagine and our God is too great at times to absorb. It’s nearly a cliche to say that God is simply too good to be true, it is never-the-less too true to be ignored. Yet sadly, we do. The love that so many of us feel for our God is nearlyΒ  impossible to describe. When we think of Him, our eyes swell with tears of joy. When we listen to Him our knees tremble with appreciation and anticipation. Our hearts seem to inflate to new floating highs. We don’t drop to our knees in obedience as much as we do in fragile surrender, or in absolute concession, in unabated adoration. This for us, is our purest form of love offered in return. That which we learned from our perfect teacher. With God hope is eternal. With hope, each days trials are navigable. God’s light is the only beacon we should focus on, the only one which will get us home safely. This is not a selective club, a fraternity or sorority of exclusion, but a voluntarily joined family of caring, open to all. What more could anyone ask for?
