The Three’s (3) ~ JC Calkins

This is the concluding (3rd) segment of this short series. Parts (1) & (2) discuss who we are, how we’re built and wired, and just how we parallel with the Holy Trinity and certain religions which have been organized under our Father’s mantle. There is however one giant variable, which sits outside of our 3 circles, outside of the exercised controls but not the ultimate authority of our God. That variable, which God has and shares, is free will. The intrinsically gifted ability to make choices, which includes the ultimate choice for humanity at large or for us individually! Jesus Christ chose to become like us, to exemplify a perfect life, to bear ridicule and hatred for truth, before hanging agonizingly from a cross for us. He did this to guarantee us enough freedom and sufficient opportunity, to consider and then accept or reject, our carefully structured heritage, legacy, challenges and potential rewards. The choice presented this way is simple, God or not. Each of our 3 circles and our sub-circles within those, were created both in and from an unlimited, unending flow of love. Free choice is the ultimate gift of love. For us, there are just 3 parts and one Holy Trinity, to which, we have assigned 3 letters, [G O D] or even [I AM]. Three letters which universally translate into love. God gave us the freedom to love Him back or not. “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 GNT). That’s an incredible offer, extended with absolute confidence. An offer which, if we truly understand it and Him, should be impossible to reject. The detail is complex, but the operation is extremely simple. We either believe, that He is who He says He is, can and will do what He’s said He’ll do, and love Him or we don’t. This is the one decision which will permeate every aspect, of every circle, of our lives and those around us.

There’s always a lot more than confusion which gets in the way of choice such as deception, frustration, consequences and of course self. The God offer sounds great, but we’ve become skeptics, doubters and lovers of this world or at least parts of it. Consequences usually sound punitive, but the consequences of committed love are only benefits. Confusion, deception, disappointment, jealousy, hatred, selfishness and frustration are the consequences and ways of this world, it’s people, not the ways of God or His people. Knowing who we are, what our strengths, weakness and potential are, is our starting line for renewal. Accepting that our renewal is necessary and worthwhile is the first step, after that it’s an unusually long, continuous journey. A journey of following in pursuit of the first One with 3 parts. “I am the first and the last,” says the Lord God Almighty, who is, who was, and who is to come.” (Revelation 1:8 GNT). A journey of sharing more than of sacrifice. Our journey of love.
