Time On A Battery ~ JC Calkins

Time On A Battery ~ JC Calkins

Why are so many oblivious to the Glory of God, to the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? This question has haunted the minds and hearts of believers from the very beginning. Some can see, hear and even experience the Glory of God and still not recognize the shear power of The Creator. Some seem to be totally immune to faith and it’s abundant blessings, they cannot catch it even when it rains down and floods everything or everyone around them. I’ve often wondered where the phrase, “can’t catch a break” came from? Surfers, prisoners, the generally unlucky, or perhaps just the faithless multitudes? If God wants them too, why doesn’t He simply take them or us? The answer is simple; love gives, it does not take. Love accepts, it does not demand. Love endures, it does not end. This lingering question of why, although answered by Jesus Himself, has been and still remains with us. “He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.” (Matthew 13:11, 12 NKJV). The key of course, to the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, is Faith. The only active ingredient in Faith is love and from this love, life and eternal understanding push against all resistance, endure against all hardships and prosper against all odds. But you wonder, “Even those who do not believe in God, still have love“. Do they?

Love involves finding the good in others, not expecting it. Love cradles potential, not immediate results. Love does not FLOW from the fruit of our loins, that is pride, love GROWS from our spirit, under the precious light and nurturing of God, from seeds of hope into towering trees of proven belief. We can not love our work, possessions or talents, they are merely gifts to be used and appreciated, to allow us to love. Love is an elusive rainbow, which never comes without a storm. Our God, knows love and the way that love is tempered and perfected, offered and accepted, tendered and returned. Jesus loves and The Father rewards that love, with everything. Note that the love of Jesus, runs both up and down stream, like the salmon, with and against the current. Both to the Father and on due course, to make a place within Himself, for the children of the Father. Everybody suffers, that’s flip side of love, the contrast of dimensions, the consequences of commitment. Do others really know and perfect this or do they, we, run when the storms approach, hide when the weather turns, leave when the sunlight fades? Love without faith is merely time on a battery. Love is tougher than steel, longer than time and much more demanding than hate. Love says “no” more often than “I do” and from this tent or flexible vessel of love, something new and wonderful emerges. From this cocoon of potential both we and the targets of our toughest love evolve into Monarchs and saints, which has been God’s plan from the very beginning. That’s the key of faith (and understanding), which to so many, “has not been given“.  At least not yet.

Timing IS Everything ~ JC Calkins

Even the most avid and astute reader can not gather up, all the meanings of the words of Jesus in any single sitting. He spoke to us from prophetic visions, sound understandings, an acute awareness of purpose, mission and destiny. His thoughts and words were given to Him by His Father, through His Spirit, to be applied to every mind, in every age and under every condition. He sensed and sought more than we, understood more than any and purposed… read more

Missing Parts? ~ JC Calkins

I used to assemble things without ever looking at the directions. This approach seemed to work well enough. Very often I had a few supplied parts left over, which I generally presumed were “extras“.  In time, the less obvious became more obvious. In time, the “things” would stop working, which was always the point where the purpose of the missing or extra parts would start to become more obvious to me. The creators of the “things” knew which parts were… read more

When this world gets a firm grip on us, which it does with everyone, we begin to challenge everything around us. Those things which are obvious, we can readily accept, however those things which are not obvious, such as Faith, we find too easy to reject. It is not simply a matter of convenience, but a matter of insecurity which leads us away from God. As I reflect upon my own history, it seems that the more education I was… read more

Good ~ JC Calkins

How can we know what is good, without knowing God? How can we know what God perceives as good, without knowing who God is? “Good” by human standards has absolutely no meaning or value to God. Long ago we determined what is good by our own measure, as those things which satisfy our needs, wants and desires. God does not see our actions or the world in that way. I believe that may be why there is so much confusion… read more

Loving your neighbor as yourself, is one way to look at life and it is the right way for the majority of the population. However, for some of you reading this column, it’s equally important that you love yourself as much as you’ve spent your life loving others. The best of Christianity, has sacrificed much of their life to serve the needs and wants of others. This is what God dictated us to do. The reward of this activity might… read more

We need God and God loves us. There could be no greater truth, but the God who can do anything, still wants to use us, to free us up to help Him do the work which ultimately benefits only us. There is a short verse from the mouth of Jesus, which for many years to me, seemed only like a footnote in a much bigger story. I’ve learned however that there are no unimportant footnotes in the Word of God…. read more

We enter this world innocently enough, without precepts, necessarily trusting that we might grow, learn and prosper. Is it not odd, that we must depend on another or others to even survive? We are created with three needs, care, nourishment and the company necessary to deliver these essentials. We can not survive alone. This is the time of our lives when we search our world for answers, experiences and reactions. This is the time when our minds, bodies, hearts, soul… read more

God is not oblivious to what goes on with, in or around us. He understands … everything … all too well. Too many believe that God is ignoring us and that this apparent dispassion is indicative of some acceptance of our behavior, our societal ideologies and compromised principles. God has already spoken clearly on this. “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even… read more

“But by God’s grace I am what I am, and the grace that he gave me was not without effect. On the contrary, I have worked harder than any of the other apostles, although it was not really my own doing, but God’s grace working with me. (1 Corinthians 15:10 GNT). I am what I am or am I? In the grey shades of mid-life, I gazed ever so momentarily upon my reflection, backdropped by the world and to my… read more
