There Is A Way ~ JC Calkins

If there is a good will, there is great way.” ~ William Shakespeare.  I’m still not entirely sure who said this first, or to whom I should ascribe this quote, since Shakespeare’s time it has been used by millions of people in one modified form or another. The most traditional application lately is, “where there is a will, there is a way“. My readers certainly know that I pay a bit more attention to God’s will than I do anyone else’s, but I also know that we have been created in God’s image and likeness and that includes so many built-in variables that most never spend a single moments thought or energy on. So let’s take it from what I’ll call the Original source. “If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him. ” (John 7:17, 18 NKJV). Written by the Apostle John but originally spoken by Jesus Christ. The fact is, whatever is God’s will, simply IS. God’s will can override virtually everything else that we might ever wrap our arms or minds around. The great thing is that God has also given us free will, in essence our own will, meaning that He has chosen NOT  to intercede with everything that we might choose to do in or with our lives. For some that is great news, while for others it is absolutely horrible. The vast majority of our time, we so appreciate the concept of free will that we take it completely for granted or even as an absolute expectation never to be interfered with in any way or by anyone. Until that moment in time, when we experience crisis and have virtually zero answers or solutions to the dilemmas which threaten or face us or our loved ones. At that point, we long for God to intercede but our free will (by His design and gift) can only be over-ridden by our own choice and/or commitment to God. It’s one of those double edged sword’s which cuts both ways at the same time.

We actually have even more will-power than what we typically associate with free will, if and only if, it’s in complete alignment with God’s will. Knowing God’s will is both a matter of doctrine and a matter of knowing God. Our own will seeks our own glory which has every human limitation imaginable. That is repeatedly exemplified in the phrase “It’s every man for himself,” where the term man references all of human kind. Note in verses 17 &18 above, the very carefully inserted uppercase letters attributed to divine authority. Jesus is referring only to himself, but both as divine and human in this two verses. However anyone who believes both doctrine and it’s source, can do His will, because it’s already been revealed to us publicly as God’s will. In essence this boils down to “where it’s God’s will, there is a way.” If we truly understood this and never doubted it, this would be a source of immense peace and constant reassuring joy but that simply is not often the case. Our doubts and conscious limitations (flawed faith) are given more weight than God’s word, which leaves us on our own and often angry or confused. Rather than accept our own flawed faith, when those troubled times arrive for us, we blame God. That’s wrong and it really shouldn’t be that way. “Where it’s God’s will, there is a way,” we just need to find it (or Him) or those who already know it (and Him) and glorify the only One who made the impossible possible. That’s when impossible storms subside.

The one thing that I know for certain, is that God is a creator, because something or someone made all of this and nobody else but God could. Beyond that, it’s mostly speculation, but speculation based upon the tactile and sensually obvious. If I were to say that God was also a scientist, most people would look at me quizzically and wonder where I had gotten that kind of information. I don’t get it from the Bible per say, as… read more

Knowledge, for the simple sake of knowledge has no practical purpose or application. Knowledge is something which we can reasonably expect to build something else entirely, upon or from. Okay, I’ll admit it, I am scholarly by choice. I didn’t always take education very seriously though, since I’m not sure that it’s really all that central to the larger theme of learning. Learning is not limited to what is rolled out in front of us in schools, but also what… read more

We can tell of where we’re at, simply by the ways in which we view and interact with the world around us. “To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled. They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.” (Titus 1:15, 16 NKJV).  Only God can purify that which has been… read more

If those who are following someone are not always able to recognize the one they are pursuing, it’s reasonable to presume that those who aren’t even looking will miss that person entirely. There are three unusual examples in New Testament accounts of disciples not being able to recognize our Messiah, their leader. Granted He had already passed from this life, but only a short time earlier and before that He had forewarned them, regarding what to expect. Jesus appeared to… read more

Are you interested? If this was posted in any single’s, dating, relationship based site or database, or even at any market bulletin board, replies should be overwhelming. It is a constantly enriching source of encouragement, in a world of darkness, to learn of so many who seek and follow the light of The Lord. As many of us move beneath the darkening skies of our selfish societies, simply knowing of the multitudes who believe as we do, is enough to brighten our days and console our darkest nights. We are the beneficiaries of thousands of years of spiritual progress and yet we still do not fit comfortably… read more

Before we can begin talking about having a relationship with God, we need to understand what relationship actually means. That understanding seems like it should be common sense, however I hear and see it misused so routinely anymore, that I believe some basic clarification would be helpful. Relationships require two or more parties or entities. For the purpose of this discussion, we’re only considering the relationships between two or more living beings. Relationship goes even further though, by considering the… read more

Just about that time when we begin to think we’ve broken through, when our curtain of personal darkness is being drawn open to reveal the light of a new dawn, another storm arrives. Sometimes these storms are the by-products of nature’s resurgence and other times they’re the residual effects of our actions or those of others. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against… read more

We look at some with admiration or envy only to then look away in shame. Jesus looks at each and every person as a lost one who needs only to be found and offered redemption and sanctuary. For this reason alone the old phrase Holier than thou holds no water nor the promise of any. For holiness as used here is a human judgement, qualifying the arbiter of sin in ways which God never has. “And the Pharisees and scribes… read more
