Are You Anointed? ~ John C. Calkins

Posted: August 29th, 2015 | Category: belief, Faith, Hope, Inspirational | Comments

We are not born with the anointing of Christ. We are born with a soul and a spirit, they are the prizes for which wars around us are waged. Free will is what makes this game of life so interesting, frightening and so critical. Some of the most wonderful people we know are still up for grabs. They’ve become enamored by the prizes of this life. Prizes which apparently glisten so brightly that our quiet and loving God is forced into the shadows of their physicality’s. Prizes which promise moments of fun instead of a peaceful eternity. Prizes which are not lies but which can and too often do, turn our lives lies of convenience.  We can not see God until we have freely chosen to see God and until we have chosen to love God rather than the prizes of this temporary world. It’s like opening our eyes to something unknown to us. We know what we love now or at least we think we do. Until that day comes when that which we’ve loved so much, for so long, is lost to us. It is only then that we come to realize that we have no special purpose, no connected anointing beyond this world. An anointing is not really a ceremonial conferring of holiness in any way which can be recognized by those around us. An anointing is a mantled blessing, conveyed by God upon those whom God has entrusted to conduct a sacred mission. What does such an anointing do? “Christ’s anointing teaches you the truth on everything you need to know about yourself and him, uncontaminated by a single lie. Live deeply in what you were taught.” (1 John 2:27 MSG).

We are not going to be anointed because we want to be or because we’ve studied or worked so hard, or even because we’ve sacrificed so much. If we are anointed at all, it is because God has somehow seen in us, some evidence of that special something which he planted in trust at the moment of our creation. Not the moment of our conception mind you, but of our creation. You see, conception is a natural thing, be it either a seed of growth or a seed of thought. Creation is a supernatural act conveyed exclusively by the Will of God. “Christ’s anointing” of us, “teaches” us “the truth on everything we need to know about” ourselves and Him. In this world of lies this is a transformation of epic proportions. We are not transformed into glowing beings of perfection, we are transported to a world where every aspect of life as we’ve known and lived it, is revealed to us in a stark supernatural expose. We see our flaws for perhaps the first time. We feel within us the strengths and gifts which we have so willingly neglected or misused. We become aware of the fact that we have we moved through life seeing only a small portion of the total dimensions which are actually available to us. We see life as it was meant to be seen, “uncontaminated by a single lie“. We see how our lives have been a lie to us and how we have been a lie introduced to others. As these truths permeate the crusty thickness of our denials, we begin to see the light. That light reveals or perhaps reminds us of that precious seed which was planted in us at creation, which has only just seen the light and watering of a supernatural uncovering. “Live deeply in what you were taught.” When God anoints, creation morphs, love is unleashed, evil is suppressed and truth reigns. Anointing isn’t something that those who have chosen this world over God are ever likely to experience. There will be no liars in heaven, even if they are right next to us now. God will always be right here with those who choose to see Him. If you’d like to be anointed, ask God and then reveal some part of that seed you have kept hidden for so long.

Firmness ~ John C. Calkins

In this world which nearly everybody is trying to make softer and fuzzier, this may sound a bit counter-culture. It’s not, it’s pro-culture. Major Robert Rogers, a military strategist and leader wrote the following instruction, which he believed every commander should never veer from, “To preserve a firmness and presence of mind on every occasion.” This officer may well have been the forerunner to the present day Army’s Ranger School. This training  has produced or at least fine tuned most of… read more

Who or Where We Are? ~ John C. Calkins

Which matters more to us, who we are or where we live? Most people would answer this question from the more singular, personal perspective. We’d rationalize that we have more control over who we are than where we live. Where we were born (country) isn’t something we had any control over. Where we live is often a result of where the citizenship, work or family is. Who I am? Now that I can take some responsibility for and/or pride in…. read more

Make The Unknown Known ~ John C. Calkins

It’s hard for us to look past the obvious, toward the unknown. It takes effort and imagination. For this reason alone it is important to know God. If we have even a vague understanding of who we are looking for, we are far more likely to find that person than if we are looking for someone we’ve only been told about. With knowledge we know better where to look, what to listen for and what to expect. Knowing God reveals the… read more

Find A Way ~ John C. Calkins

Knowing God and teaching others about God are very different prospects. The same is true with any teachers or subjects. Some of us are created to teach (or testify) while others routinely display one or more of the other gifts of the Spirit. Everyone is able to come to know God without much difficulty, but for those who doubt, resist, rationalize, are distracted or are simply attempting to justify their lifestyles without God, something more may be needed. There are… read more

For You And Me ~ John C. Calkins

Living with regrets is perhaps the worst kind of intimate relationship any person can struggle through. It’s too often entirely irreconcilable because this life simply doesn’t offer us any redo opportunities for much of the most important stuff we’ve been faced with. It’s just how a healthy conscience works. We amplify our mistakes and forget or take for granted our well done’s. The mistakes stare back at us with every reflective glance at self or the consequences of ourself unleashed…. read more

The Ultimate Weaver ~ John C. Calkins

We have become a society of seven billion sheep, all competing for the same meadows and springs. All running from the same alarming threats and storms. All toward the same false promises. All consumed by the news as reported by the other frenzied and stampeding sheep who are running in lock step with us. Because we intuitively know all of this about ourselves, we try to find little ways to differentiate ourselves. How fast can we run or high can… read more

We Did This ~ John C. Calkins

We, or at least I, now live in a spiritually sensitive, relational world. Not everyone does. One where we are acutely aware of the gradual, yet accelerating degrading of our own ethics and general morality. This is a trend cloaked in naivety rather than nativity. We believers, on the other hand, embrace the good and pray for the bad. Sadly, we have some very demoralizing outlooks, despite our focused thoughts and efforts to see the hopeful and spread the compassion and… read more
