Answering His Call
I don’t worry about waking up every morning, I take that probability for granted and I rest peacefully. When my body is struggling to overcome disease or damage, my rest is less peaceful. If old age is my constant companion, I sleep in wonder of what’s next? If faced with aging and disease or damage, sleep might not be a concern or priority for me. When I believe that God is near, I am calling out to Him, whether I’m asleep or awake.
In Romans 8:23-25, Paul, selected by Jesus and inspired by The Holy Spirit, wrote: “Not only so but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we await eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. (24) For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? (25) But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.”
From the moment the Spirit is awakened within us, we will develop a driving need and unquenchable thirst to know more about His will and to better know, our God. Hope brings peaceful rest but we do not awaken satisfied that all is done. We have “been given the right to become children of God” (John 1-12). We have yet to stand before Him, and Jesus has not yet interceded in our final judgement. We have been called by God for a purpose, (Romans 8:28) “works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10) await us. “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” (Luke 10:2). There is much left for the children of God to do.
God calls out to His children, and in our answer we eagerly tackle the works that He’s prepared for us. If He calls out our names and we choose not to answer, our sleep should not be peaceful and our consciousness should be troubled. Those who do respond, will find comfort in His tender care knowing that they are fulfilling the purpose the Father intended and securing their new birth right as His Children.
