For The Time-Being
Even on those days when I offer thoughts for consideration, I have more questions than answers. Life is short, busy and far too distracted to fully address the multitude of unknowns facing us. Because of this, I prefer to consider one or two issues a day in some relative depth and let the others linger in my unconsciousness for … “the time being”.
I know that God has all the answers and He in turn knows my learning limitations, so the tutoring is paced differently each day. God has no limitations, He transcends time, space (dimensions) and understanding. Due to these unique capabilities, God becomes my ultimate “Time Being“. I trust that at the right time, if needed, He will afford me the understanding that I seek. He co-authored and has a copy of my to-do list. My query today is; why Lord, did you even create and then name one particular piece of fruity vegetation, “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” (Genesis 2:9)?
In our world of laws and responsibility, we would call such a tree, the ultimate “attractive nuisance“. One of those things, which by it’s very nature attracts the curious, yet threatens harm to naive and pesky visitors. Ask a child not to play on a merry-go-round or pass up a toasted marshmallow because of the fire? Even today, no trespassing signs rarely work, they simply provide some avenue of defense for subsequent civil actions. My “Time Being” knew that we’d trespass, because he created our curiosity, offered up free will and allowed an evil influence into the playground. He also knows our future (proven throughout the bible)!
After considerable contemplation (and prayer), these observations seeped through.
1) God knows we are experiential learners. 2) This boarding school he built, called LIFE (and some of the curriculum) has His stamp of approval. 3) He knows we can’t graduate without His tutoring, no matter how smart he made us.
One man’s 3 part conclusion: First, if we don’t ask for help we’ll fail. Second, we need to trust the Headmaster. And third, learning is the key to growing and understanding, where the tougher the learning assignment the greater the take-away.
