Life Isn’t Fair

Posted: October 21st, 2011   Category: christian, Common Sense

I figured some of this out relatively early in life, but the rest took time, frustration and experience.  Here’s the bottom line. There is nothing fair about life … EXCEPT for God. That’s the way it’s suppose to be.  Understanding this requires the acceptance of a simple principle.  Nature is a powerful, predictable force and we can’t change it.  I am speaking both of the natural environment and human nature.  There are elements of unpredictability in both which suggests some flexibility, some potential for alteration but the big picture remains unchanged. Both nature’s have seasons, within which there are favorable and unfavorable days and periods.  The sequence of seasons and direction of our human nature never really change.  Human nature is partly set by environmental conditioning and choices, the remainder by genetics. Both are hand picked by God. Catastrophic events can overwhelm our delicate psyche’s, causing traumatic alterations, but genetics are set in stone, with only modest adjustments for each generation.   The nature of humanity, like it’s seasonal cousin never changes and it’s because of this that life’s flurries are guaranteed to be unfair.

Contrarily, God is perfectly fair. God’s perspective is never clouded by greed, selfishness or the need to evidence His incredible power.  God already has everything he needs and wants.  He has His book of life already set in place, now we are just waiting for His prescribed schedule for the rest to play out.  God set the stage and we bit the apple. When we once again become like God’s image, free of sin, evil and injustice, life will be fair, but those are insurmountable conditions which can not be overcome without His intervention.  An intervention which will be as far from pleasant as we might ever imagine. Most would argue here that our current state of “unfair” existence is far more desirable than the end of days He has prescribed for us, but we’ll eventually prove ourselves wrong on that too.  We’ve had seven plus millennium to get our acts together, but we have only managed further obfuscate the paths toward righteousness. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.” (Isaiah 55:8 ESV) I’d like to meet the one who has never experienced one of life’s disappointments, for that would be a special individual indeed. Turning to God is never a sign of weakness, it’s the wise choice of understanding.  If we want fairness on earth we must deliver it, if we want fairness in life, trust in God. God sent us to his private school, soon enough some will graduate.
