The Miracle of Choice
I no longer own all that I once owned. The things which had been acquired, came at a great cost, at the expense of personal peace. My life had become troubled and confused. I searched for what was missing with my eyes and my heart. My eyes prevailed, by seeking more of that which had already robbed me of the tiny morsel’s of personal peace which lingered in my life. God intervened (thankfully) and reformed me, to be more like one who has had fewer earthly rewards, except that He also taught me the invaluable lesson of how to appease the heart, not the eyes. The eyes search for more, competing with those who “have,” while the heart searches for that which is available to everyone, but is found by only a select few. This privilege of the heart’s perfect treasure, is restricted to those who acknowledge their inherent emptiness and then constantly seek and sacrifice to find the only perfect compliment to their being. All that’s been lost, has made me richer in that which makes us whole. (Our Lord’s words in Luke 12:15) “…Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
The Holy Triune sacrificed for all of us, yet individually. This is more than most of us can imagine, to voluntarily die for the selfish choices and yet unseen good of others. That sacrifice means more to me today than everything the “haves” could even imagine coveting. Fame and fortune have become the greatest wants of an emerging generation. Another generation which has yet to face its own demise. They, the children of the “me” generation, although new, are not unique. They have come and gone, thousands of times throughout history, but each time different souls have been lost or misplaced.
If our children are temporarily lost, our faults and failures should be as visible as theirs. The sins of fathers are indeed still passed down to the children. This is done by God’s original design of genetic code, magnified by the choices of free will, not as construed by many as a divine penalty. God knows each person who will follow His path and all of those who will follow their own. God gave each of us our freedom to choose, to live an earthly or a spiritual life. He also gives most of us an opportunity to amend our ways. Vision is a gift. Spiritual vision is a rare gift. Spiritual vision, supported by faith and sacrifice is a miracle. The miracle of choice!
