The Times We Live In

Posted: January 23rd, 2011   Category: christian, Common Sense

The times we live in are troubling. Our elevating global natural disasters, world conflicts and the narcissistic attitudes naively promoted by so many hopefuls through our social networking systems contribute. As does the blind migration away from our creator, but toward the earthly delights which He created for us. Combining these suggests to many Christians, the end of times may be nearer than we are prepared to accept. Only God knows for sure the timing of and details of His plans for this world. Yet He offers each of us the opportunity to prepare for any alternative, one-on-one. What’s astonishing, is how few people are really taking advantage of His standing offer of LOVE in the form of a relationship today and His divine salvation for tomorrow.

Can the human race be so self assured of our spiritual correctness or so enchanted with each days earthly gratifications, that we can ignore the inevitable? James 4:13-14, “Now listen you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money’. Why you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes“. The end is somewhere in sight for everyone, whether it’s one at a time or en masse. Are we living the life that we want or the life that God intended for us? Here’s a hint, the life that God intends for us, is not laced with sadness, loneliness, unfulfilled dreams, disappointments, envy or shattered expectations. That’s what a life without God delivers. Even if success has graced our doorstep, behind that door, real happiness and joy are only occasional visitors, not regulars at our tables. Sin is a word that is quickly being obsoleted from our vocabularies, not because the concept is outdated, but because the concept interferes with too many of our earthly goals, objectives and pleasures. Sin today is equated to earthly rather than heavenly laws; if it’s not illegal, it must be OK! What a convenient leap that is! Adultery, coveting, lying, selfishness and greed aren’t illegal, only immoral and the new morality serves our earthly desires well! It’s that very attitude that has defined the times we live in. That same attitude will surely dictate our final resolution. Here’s an old idea that’s novel again, James 4:17, “Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins“. Avoiding that one sin, would quickly change the times we live in, and maybe even God’s timetable, which was conveniently left open.
