A Door Opened Wider

Posted: May 20th, 2011   Category: Christianity, Common Sense

Some people often recall dreaming and others rarely.  If you’re like most of us, your dreams often reflect the last experience or conscious thoughts you had before sleep.  Experts estimate that during a typical lifespan, a person spends about 6 years dreaming, approximately two hours a night. The bible references dreams no less than thirty five times, including dreams of prophecy, dreams where God speaks to the dreamer, dreams of; angels, visions and warnings.  When dreaming, our conscious mind is generally at rest, hence our logic defenses also are generally down.  What better time for God to visit, with the door to our mind cracked open?  That can be a pleasant or disturbing thought, depending upon who you are and what you’ve been dreaming.  Imagine God having 6 unrestricted years to continue the work he started in the womb.  Interpreting dreams is big business, but not often biblical business.  One exception was a young man named Daniel, who was gifted by God to interpret the dream of a king, but the skeptical king refused to tell Daniel the subject of his dream, in order to validate Daniel’s unusual gift.  None of the kings astrologers could tell him his dream, nor did Daniel claim that he could. Daniel 2:26-28a. “The king asked Daniel, are you able to tell me what I saw in my dream and interpret it? Daniel replied, ‘No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries’…”. Daniel, with God’s enlightenment, then explained to the king how God had shown him what was to come, describing his dream and then interpreting it.

Now there is nothing in the bible that tells us that every dream is divinely inspired and given the subject of most dreams, it’s far more logical to simply presume that we have been prewired with dream capabilities.  Most of us can’t explain the science behind cellular phones either, but we understand this powerful tool when we need to get a message through to someone. Dreaming is just one of the channels God uses to speak to us. Even the biophysics of neuroscience can’t effectively explain the intricate miracles of the mind.  Hebrews 10:16, “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds“.  God communicates with us when we take the time to listen and sometimes, even when we don’t.  To open our door wider, our last thoughts before sleep should be with God.
