Either Or

Posted: December 20th, 2011   Category: Christianity, Common Sense

Christianity isn’t a crutch, gurney or an elevator, it’s the gate which was wrenched open by the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Christianity is not for the weak or wishy washy, it is only for those who are willing to be slashed while wielding the sword of God when it’s placed firmly in our faith filled hands. Christianity is not remotely convenient, not occasional, not decorative and absolutely not trivial, secondary or optional. It is either or. Christianity matters substantially more than the limitations of this life.

Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.‘” (John 14:6, 7 NIV) There will come a day where each and every Christian will stand face to face with the most incredible being in any universe.  To have God smile upon our lives will be the most fulfilling experience our then expanded consciousness will be able to absorb. Until that day know that God still expects much from us. “Spending” our lives serving the One who serves us isn’t expected, it’s an honor which only the most faithful Christians have come to understand and live for. Although we can experience satisfaction in our varied achievements, our promised joy comes directly from pleasing God.  We can not do His work, we can only do the work which He has prepared us for.  That work takes many forms, but every so often while playing our tiny role, we can help another to escape the confines of this lopsided, dimensional world. There is indeed “a train a comin”, and we do need “to get ready to get on board”. What we don’t want, is to board alone. Those of us who know God, know also that as His trusted Disciples, we must have our arms extended to embrace, the lost, searching, falling and crying whom we will intersect with on God’s carefully laid tracks. We need to leave our seats, our berths, compartments  and sometimes even our safety train to provide this service for those who truly need but aren’t even looking for the One we represent. Whatever we do, we must do for God, exactly as we have been told.  If a life is saved, it is God’s doing not ours, the glory of God’s work can not be shared. No pawn has ever proclaimed Checkmate, that is for the Master alone. Our joy, which will be greater than we could ever imagine comes from serving our unbelievably generous Redeemer. Thanks for using us Lord, we love you!
