Our Essential Journey
There is only one way to win in this adventure called life. We are born into this world totally dependent. A process of learning through mistakes and achievements brings us to some physical pinnacle of our lives. In this dimensional world, climbing any hill of success involves commitment, stamina, foresight and some physical tools. Regardless of which set of tools are assigned to each of us, they will wear out. That’s guaranteed. When we are at the top of our chosen hill, equipped with our well worn tools, somebody will come up behind us, younger, stronger and better equipped with more state of the art equipment and nudge or push us off the summit. For those not ready, this will hurt. So while we may still be very competitive and even more productive, the fear and resentment of defeat might begin to set in. Each place which we turn to after that, we must eventually turn away from, for the same reasons which led us there. Eventually, in this state of being, we’ll seemingly lose the last battle of this life. For those who have been overly focused on their physical existence, that will be their end. BUT for those who’ve discovered the true purpose of life’s journey, this is the incredible beginning. “He went on his way through towns and villages, teaching and journeying toward Jerusalem.” (Luke 13:22 ESV)
It’s all about the journey, without which there can be no destination for us. For this created race through life is our destiny. The bible tells us of so many journeys. As we read scripture it’s easy to lose that continuous underlying theme. From Genesis to Revelations, each story, lesson and teaching reveals another step in that which has been lived before but is none-the-less our own journey. Absent our individual journey of opportunity, there is no point of access through the narrow gate. “And someone said to him, “Lord, will those who are saved be few?” And he said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.” (Luke 13:23,24 ESV). Neither begrudge nor abuse our journey, it’s joys or hardships, for this is our only map toward the narrow gate. We can not enter through the gate alone, as no others have successfully mastered their journey. The entry fee was paid for all by One, but other than the children, only those who’ve learned of and leaned on their benefactor shall be granted entry. “And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.” (Luke 13:30 ESV).
