Savior Soul

Posted: April 17th, 2011   Category: Christianity, Common Sense

What kind of person am I? What kind of child must I have been to accept; the gifts of life, the affection of a family, the laughter, joy and hope for a future, helping hands, caring hearts, solid shelter, full stomach, education, shoes and clothes? All accepted without a word of thanks to my great provider. What kind of teen was I, groping for recognition, aching for independence, struggling with trust, ungrateful for so much in so many ways? What kind of adult am I, who moves through life, racking up atrocities of every sort, from small to large, selfish and justified but never breaking man’s laws or never getting caught? I’m the man who’s selfish nature has condemned itself to certain death. As I await my execution from this life, a man, a stranger to me, but not I to him, a gentle man approaches, with knowledge stretching beyond the most distant star and makes me an unbelievable offer. He says, “I will die in your place, paying for all of your selfish and wrongful acts, broken rules and laws, private coveting, avarice acts and lascivious thoughts, careless life, in truth for your totally sinful nature and it won’t cost you anything“. I hesitate and reply, “what’s the catch”?

When someone is waiting for their certain death sentence to be carried out, when all appeals have been exhausted, when the inevitable is … inevitable and an out is offered up, what kind of man asks that question? There is always a price, no ride is free, right? Wrong. I might have found something good in myself and thought, no one else should pay for my choices, but he said “it won’t cost you anything“? But I didn’t. The man looked into my heart and asked “do you know who I am“? I hesitate again … thinking about this critical riddle and guess the only answer that I can think of which might qualify, “Jesus”? He smiles. Not the smile of a fox that had just outwitted his prey, but the smile of a doctor with the enviable task of telling a patient, that their terminal illness has, defying explanation, mysteriously and spontaneously been cured, permanently! I smile. “Why would you do that,” I ask, now with some growing interest? His eyes, shining like rainbows, “because I know you better than you know yourself and you are worth so much more than you give yourself credit for! Because I love you even more than you love yourself. Because I am! Here to Savior soul“. This is insight not scripture. We are humanity, He is too and yet everything else we aren’t. Believe, accept His offer and show your gratitude.
