Wolves Among Lambs?

Posted: October 27th, 2011   Category: Christianity, Common Sense

A writer need also be a reader, not necessarily to improve a skill set but to dwell in the words of others which reflect an endless flow of thoughts which our spoken word is too slow to harness. We all play many roles in this life. We start out as a speck of God’s inspiration and are delivered into this world as someone’s child.  From that moment we might be called upon as sibling, friend, mother or father, aunt or uncle, grandmother or grandfather.  We also serve as students, employees, managers, owners or renters, volunteers or team-mates.  Within these many roles are the less defined but even more important obligations and responsibilities which we bear as teacher, counselor or guardian and how seriously we accept these roles will not only define our lives, but often the lives of those around us. Life is not in any way simple and given the breadth of these roles which we’ll play over time, there is no room for selfishness or greed, yet that is exactly where we spend our preciously allotted time. Jesus asks us to play one more role, that of His disciple. We must decide whether we honor the obligations imposed on us by this world or the opportunity offered to us by the creator of this world? It needn’t be one or the other, but it can not be nothing at all. There is a very important string attached to this request from our Lord, which quite simply is the proof and testimony of our beliefs.  When we truly believe something, we live that belief.  To say that we believe in truth while ignoring or casting a shadow of dishonesty is simply foolish.

Given these endless seams between us, the reliances, dependence, support and assistance, knowing our own position at any moment and how to play it, is the key to winning.  When we don’t execute our roles properly or at all, everyone and everything suffers.  This is exactly where we are right now. We are witnessing unparalleled greed and selfishness around the world and if we are being honest, within ourselves. To complain about Wall Street, while we ignore the homeless and protect our wallets is wrong. To condemn our leaders while we pad our expense accounts is insane.  To protest greed while we overcharge for our wares and services while annually inflating our exemptions is evil. When Jesus looks at us, what do we think He sees? His future neighbors? Not likely. He said: “Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. (Luke 10:3 NIV)! Not: I am sending you out to be wolves among lambs!
